Description:Position Summary:In keeping with our organization's
goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve; the Director
of Nursing plays a critical role in providing superior customer
service and nursing services to all Residents in the facility. The
Director of Nursing is responsible for the planning, development
and overall operation of the Nursing Department which ensures
Residents receive quality care 24 hours a day. Principal Duties and
Responsibilities:Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable

functions.Plans, directs, and supervises the activities of the
nursing staff.Ensures the nursing department is compliant with
federal, state, and local regulations.Develop, implement and update
department policy and procedures when necessary or as
directed.Responsible for providing consistent and sufficient
staffing for Residents needs as well as regulatory
requirements.Participates in Federal, State and Local agency annual
surveys.Review with appropriate department heads any deficiencies
noted by government agencies during inspections. Responsible for
operating the Nursing Department within budgetary guidelines and
limitations. Completes annual performance reviews of all
subordinate staff. Provides guidance and education to staff in
regard to their performance.Provides counseling and disciplinary
action to subordinate staff members as needed. Responsible for
training and educating staff members.Assure that established
infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained
at all times. Follow established safety precautions when preforming
tasks and using equipment and supplies.Reports all hazardous
conditions, damaged equipment and supply issues to the appropriate
persons.Maintains the comfort, privacy and dignity of Residents and
interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect and
promotes a caring environment.Must answer and respond to call
lights promptly and courteously when working in Residents care
areas.Assist with new admissions, re-admissions and assist with the
transfer of Residents to different rooms within the facility.
Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with
Residents, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.Attend staff
meetings and in-services as requested. Attends in-service and
education programs and attends continuing education required for
maintenance of professional certification or licensure.Maintains a
high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines
at all times and protects confidential information by only
providing information on a need-to-know basis. Understands
Infection Control and follows the Company's Infection Control
guidelines, such as hand washing principles, understanding of
isolation and standard precautions, recognizing signs and symptoms
of infection, demonstrating and understanding of the process for
identifying and handling infectious waste and cross contamination,
maintaining personal hygiene, and complying with OSHA standards in
the workplace.Promotes and Protects Resident Rights by assisting
Residents to make informed decisions, treating Residents with
dignity and respect, protecting Residents' personal belongings,
reporting suspected abuse or neglect, avoiding the need for
physical restraints in accordance with current professional
standards, and supporting independent expression, choice and
decision-making consistent with applicable laws and
regulations.Perform other tasks as required.Supervisory
Responsibility:Supervises employees in the department and others
for whom they are administratively or professionally responsible by
following policies and applicable laws. Uses independent judgment
and discretion on behalf of the organization in the performance of
these duties.Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing,
hiring and training dietary employees; scheduling, planning, and
assigning and directing work; receiving calls and finding
replacements for absent staff; preparing performance evaluations,
monitoring and correcting job performance of employees, and
handling disciplinary action for employees, up to and including
discharge; and fixing and approving timecards for
payroll.Requirements:Education, Training, and Experience:Must
possess a current Michigan license as a Registered Nurse and have
graduated from an accredited school of nursing.CPR Certified.Two
years of professional nursing experience in the long-term care
setting is required, and a minimum of three years' experience in
nursing administration or a comparable management position. Three
years' experience as a DON or similar role preferred.Knowledge of
CMS Federal Regulations and LARA Regulations.Must possess and
demonstrate a high degree of leadership, organizational ability,
and communication skills.Knowledge of long-term care management,
policies, budgeting, personnel management, and census development
is required.Specific skills, knowledge, and abilities:Knowledge of
current federal and state laws and regulations that apply to the
practice of nursing in a long-term care setting. Has strong
organizational and time management skills and the ability to
prioritize responsibilities.Ability to make presentations before
top management, public groups, and staff. Ability to define
problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid
conclusions. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret journals,
financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to apply
mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and
proportions to practical
